STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Ski Free Sundays at Howelsen Hill provided nearly 10,000 free lift tickets during the 2018-19 season.

This winter, 9,594 people enjoyed complimentary access to the Alpine and Nordic trails during Howelsen Hill’s 103rd season. The program averaged 640 people per Sunday, with Dec. 30, 2018, setting a new single day record with 1,170.

Over the entire season, 8,960 Alpine and 634 Nordic tickets were issued including 1,021 to individuals experiencing their first year in the sport.

Combined results from the season show city residents came out in the largest numbers, 37%, followed by Colorado residents, 23%, and out-of-state, 18%. Valley-wide visitation, from South Routt to North Routt and west to Hayden and Craig, measured 21% and reached 58% when combined with Steamboat Springs.

Due to incredible early season snowmaking and natural snow, Ski Free Sundays started two weeks early and provided 15 Sundays free. The Steamboat Springs City Council approved free skiing on Sundays to spur interest in Howelsen Hill.

Renewal of Ski Free Sundays for the 2019-20 season will go before council April 16.
