Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. has hired a former Resort Sports Network television executive to assist the resort’s marketing effort.
Steamboat Vice President of Marketing Andy Wirth announced Monday Doug LaPlaca has been hired as the new director of marketing for the ski area. LaPlaca starts his new position today. He is filling a position vacant since Wirth was promoted to his current role in June 2000. Before coming to Steamboat, LaPlaca was the regional director of sales and marketing for RSN.
Prior to his role with RSN, LaPlaca worked at Heavenly Ski Resort as the manager of marketing and merchandising.
LaPlaca will report to Wirth and be responsible for advertising, developing and executing all resort promotions, managing the marketing aspects of major television events, formulating strategic partnerships, leading sponsorship marketing efforts and coordinating and integrating resort campaigns.
Wirth predicted LaPlaca’s experience would make Steamboat more competitive within the ski industry.
“Doug’s work will allow us to take advantage of additional opportunities,” Wirth said.
