— A registered sex offender has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a teenage boy on Thanksgiving Day.

Van Barton Bomgardner, 50, was arrested Friday at his Steamboat Springs home.

According to an arrest warrant, the teen’s mother told police her son went to a Thanksgiving dinner hosted by someone who rents to Bomgardner. The woman told police she went to pick up her son at the home and caught Bomgardner in the act of assaulting her son.

Bomgardner also is accused of supplying the teen with several shots of vodka and glasses of wine before the assault, according to an arrest warrant.

The teen told police he was intoxicated and has no memory of the incident.

Bomgardner faces charges of sexual assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, both felonies.
