Second man sentenced in robbery

— Two Steamboat Springs men have been sentenced to two years in prison for robbing several men at gunpoint in February at a Steamboat mobile-home park.

Caleb Edward Murphy, 19, was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to robbery and second-degree burglary in June.

Murphy’s accomplice, 24-year-old Jared Dean Justice, was sentenced earlier this month after pleading guilty to the same Class 4 felonies.

Both men accepted plea agreements reached with Assistant Routt County District Attorney Kerry St. James. Murphy faced charges of first-degree burglary, aggravated robbery and first-degree assault. Justice was facing two counts of first-degree burglary and five counts of aggravated battery.

Police said the two men entered a Westland Mobile Home Park trailer in February wearing black ski masks, and that Justice showed the people in the trailer a BB gun and demanded they all get on the floor. A fight broke out between the man and the victims, and Murphy cut a man’s hand with a knife during the fight, police said. The man was not seriously injured but was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center to be treated for the wound.

District Judge Shelley Hill ordered both men to pay $508 in restitution to the man who was stabbed.

Murphy on Wednesday was given credit for 227 days he served in Routt County Jail. Justice, who was sentenced on Sept. 6, was given a 207-day credit. Both men will serve three years of supervised probation.
