Searchers looking for 3 hunters lost in Flat Tops

— A search for three hunters in the Flat Tops Wilderness area is entering its second day after they failed to return to their camp Saturday night, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office told The Denver Post today. The Post reported this afternoon that the Colorado National Guard has joined the search.

The search is concentrated in the northeastern part of the county.

According to Tanny McGinnis, spokeswoman for the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, a party of five hunters from metro Denver left camp on Saturday morning but the three did not return that evening.

The two hunters who returned to the camp searched all day Sunday and notified law enforcement of their missing colleagues Sunday night.

Searchers started looking for the hunters Monday morning. McGinnis said the search today is again being carried out in heavy snow and high winds.
