Search and Rescue helps dog, owners in North Routt

— Routt County Search and Rescue volunteers were paged out for a rescue at about 5 a.m. Friday in North Routt County.

A man and his girlfriend reportedly spent the night on the Slavonia Trail, at the end of Seedhouse Road, but the dog had a health problem as they began the walk back. The woman went ahead on the trail and began the seven-mile walk back to the car, while the man built a fire with the dog.

Search and Rescue Incident Commander Kristia Check-Hill said she sent teams up as a courtesy to the man and dog, but also to ensure that the woman got to her car safely. As two snowmobile riders arrived, the woman was just getting to her car and was not injured. The rescuers then rode up the trail and returned with the man and the dog.

Check-Hill said she did not know what kind of injury the dog had.
