School receives grant
March 16, 2004
Hayden Middle School students have been awarded a $1,000 State Farm Insurance Grant to be used for National Youth Service Day on April 16. The students will use the money to complete two community service projects.
The first project will be creating a mural titled, “Art for the Imagination,” in which middle school students, directed by graphic designer Lana McFadden, have prepared three 4-by-8 panels to paint. The theme is bringing awareness to the fine arts. The paintings will be presented at the middle school April 16 and displayed in various locations thereafter.
The second project, April 17 and 18, is cleaning and repainting structures at Hayden Town Park.
AmeriCorps youth volunteer and school-based mentor Adam Garbus wrote the grant application in December.
“Maybe (Hayden was chosen) because (it’s) a small community and there isn’t that much going on here for the youth,” Garbus said.
