Sally Claassen: Thank you for open space

I have just enjoyed a rhapsodic walk on the Bluff trails, reveling in the turning aspen, burnished scrub oak and panoramic views of color-splashed Buffalo Pass. I am busting with gratitude.

Thank you elected officials for the vision to give us open space. Thank you public servants for maintaining our parks. Thank you volunteer Park and Recreation Committee members for watching out for the users.

Thank you Routt County Riders for all your hard work and tireless advocacy. Thank you Rocky Mountain Youth Corps for building trails and raising a new generation of outdoor stewards. Thank you all you super-friendly and polite bike riders for your big smiles and “thank-yous” as you ride by. It does my heart so good.

And last, but not least, thank you Mother Nature for the abundant shower of glorious gold on the Yampa Valley this fall. It makes me feel like the richest person alive.
