The Steamboat Springs High School tennis team made it a perfect weekend on Saturday by winning its second matchup, this time against regional rival Aspen.

The Sailors did it with a sweep, winning up and down the lineup, 7-0, at an event in Grand Junction.

“Just overall we were very pleased with the performance of all of our team,” Steamboat coach John Aragon said. “It was a very solid day.”

Tatum Burger got it done at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-2. Maddie Thompson won at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Shea Burger won at No. 3 singles, 7-6, 6-0.

Hanna Haggerty and Maddie Labor won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Sabina Berend and Lily Petersen won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. Shannon Ross and Norma Techarukpong won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 doubles, and Mariah Hoots and Natalie Simon won 6-4, 6-4.

“Aspen was second in our region last year, and they were really close to us in a lot of those matches,” Aragon said. “I was really pleased with our young kids today, the way they come out and played hard. It was pretty impressive.”
