Sailors snap streak, beat Battle Mountain

— The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team is in the middle of another bad week after it found out Monday it will be missing another player. Sophomore Kady Look tore her ACL.

The team did earn itself a ray of sunshine, however, beating Battle Mountain 47-39 on the road Tuesday night.

“It was really nice,” coach Mack Spitellie said. “I hope it can lead to some more wins now.”

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Steamboat.

The Sailors got 16 points from Maddie Clock, who led the team in scoring.

They had plenty of other contributors, however. Megan Limberg poured in four 3-point shots. Savannah Bauknecht hit one trey and nailed free throws late to finish the game.

“It was a pretty solid game,” Spitellie said. “Great defense kept us ahead the whole time. The girls just came together and played hard and got a win.”

Steamboat improved to 4-8 with the win. It next plays Friday at home against Summit.
