Sailors hockey team comes from behind, defeats Crested Butte

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The Steamboat Springs High School hockey team entered the third period of its season opener down 3-1 against Crested Butte. Three goals from three different Sailors propelled Steamboat to a 4-3 victory on Friday, Dec. 6, on the road.

Freshman Jake Filler scored his first varsity goal five minutes and three second into the third to get the Sailors going again. Senior center Tanner Ripley score two minutes later to tie the game at three.

Senior David Thiel netted the game winner at the 10:15 mark of the third. Sailors goaltender Indiana Kretzschmar kept the Titans from tying the game again.

He made 39 saves on 42 shots on goal.

Theil started the scoring late in the opening frame, giving Steamboat a 1-0 lead. The advantage only lasted a minute, though, as Graham Barrett scored his first of two goals on the night.
