Sailors girls defense again comes up huge in win against Roaring Fork
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs High School girls basketball team is starting to find its identity and once again used a strong defensive presence to down Brenda Patch Tournament host Roaring Fork, 53-37, on Saturday afternoon.
Steamboat (2-1) forced the Rams into 19 turnovers, most coming in half-court sets.
“We played really tough D tonight,” Sailors coach Mack Spitellie said. “That’s what it looks like our identity will be again, tough D and forcing turnovers.”
On the offensive end, juniors Annie Osbourn and Jenna Miller again led the way. Osbourn had a team-high 14 points and Miller pitched in 12 with 16 rebounds. Kady Look and Maddie Clock each had eight points.
“We spread the ball around a little better,” Spitellie said.
The Sailors return to the court Thursday for the start of the Steamboat Shoot-Out. They’ll open up with Battle Mountain for a 4:30 p.m. first round.
