Sailors’ Dorr has 18 saves in girls lax loss to Aspen
Steamboat Springs — The league’s second-ranked Aspen Skiers girls lacrosse team was a few steps ahead of the Steamboat Springs squad Friday night, despite a big game from Sailors goalie Summer Dorr.
Aspen — which sits just behind Fruita Monument in the Western Slope standings — held the Sailors to just four shots and sunk in nearly 20 of their own, beating Steamboat, 18-1. The Sailors are now 1-8 on the season.
“They just controlled the pace of the game and most of the possessions,” Steamboat coach Betsy Frick said.
Steamboat’s Becky Brown had the Sailors’ lone goal. Brown also had a pair of goals in the JV game, which Steamboat lost, 11-2. Seven Sailors saw action in both the varsity and JV contests.
Dorr, a senior, recorded 18 saves in the loss.
Steamboat gets a little time off from game action before traveling to Summit (1-4 overall) Thursday. The Sailors will host Pueblo West April 18.
