Sailors boys basketball walks away with 2-0 in league play after weekend wins

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Springs High School boys basketball team is officially 2-0 in 4A Western Slope play. The Sailors defeated Palisade 52-38 Friday, Jan. 11. Steamboat seniors Mac Riniker, Trace Walker and Aden Knaus showed out, scoring 19, eight and nine points, respectively. Riniker also walked away with 12 rebounds and six assists.

But the Sailors weren’t done dominating league opponents as they took down Rifle 61-47 Saturday, Jan. 12. Riniker scored 20 points while Steamboat junior Dawson Lindquist hit 10. Sailors senior Taylor Doyne, Jack Martin and Knaus along with junior Ethan Pyles would all score eight points each. Lindquist also had eight rebounds, and Doyne had six rebounds as well as four assists.

The Sailors will take on the Battle Mountain Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at Steamboat Springs High School.
