Russians clean up at Howelsen in Steamboat

Duo dominates 2nd day of Surefoot Steamboat Holiday Classic

— Russian domination at How­elsen Hill continued Sunday.

Anna Sorokina and Ana­stasia Kedrina were at the top of the podium for the second time in as many races, tying for first place after the pair were first and second Saturday.

The Surefoot Steamboat Holiday Classic continued with another slalom race.

Maisie Ide was third, also for the second consecutive day.

Russians claimed four of the top seven spots in the event.

Shane McLean was the top local finisher, crossing the line in eighth.

Sorokina and Kedrina both finished with two-run combined times of 1 minute, 28.34 seconds. Ide was in at 1:30.17.

Mark Engel won the men’s event, finishing in 1:26.77. Seppi Stiegler was second at 1:26.94, and Andrew Phillips was third at 1:27.02.

Steamboat’s Scott Ptach was 10th in 1:30.63.

The Holiday Classic continues today with women’s giant slalom at Steamboat Ski Area. Races will start at 10 a.m.
