Runners wrap regular season

Soroco High School Rams

Soroco’s Ben Kelley and Steamboat’s Maggi Congdon both laid down fast times to earn high finishes Thursday at the Rifle Cross County Invitational meet at the Rifle Creek Golf Course.

Kelley was third for the Rams, finishing the five-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 11.54 seconds. Congdon, meanwhile, was third for the Sailors, finishing in 20:04.75.

Those results led the way for strong showings from local runners as they finished off their regular season. Next up for the teams is the regional cross country meet, set for next week in Delta.

The Steamboat girls put up the best local team result. Sadie Cotton was eighth, Isabelle Boniface 22nd and Kandice Kittinger 25th to round out the top of the roster, still missing several of its fastest athletes.

Chloe Veilleux was eighth and Kourtney Bruner 39th for Soroco on the girls side.

Cisco DelliQuadri had the top Steamboat boys result, placing 28th. Sebastian Master was 42nd, Aubrey Morrison 70th and Josh Bush 78th.

For Soroco, Brad Veilleux was 90th and Joshua Taing 103rd.
