Routt unemployment at 9.8 percent in November

Number is an increase from 9.3 percent in October

— Unemployment in Routt County was 9.8 percent in November, according to figures released today by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. That’s an increase from 9.3 percent in October and 7.1 percent in November 2009.

Those figures are not adjusted for typical seasonal changes.

Routt’s numbers for November represent a continued decrease in the size of the labor force and in jobs. Last month, 1,326 people were unemployed out of a work force of 13,583. In November 2009, 994 people were unemployed out of a work force of 13,992.



There were 742 fewer jobs year over year. Routt County had 12,999 jobs in November 2009, according to the state figures, compared with 12,257 in November 2010.

Statewide, the unemployment rate increased 0.2 percentage points from October to November. That number was 8.6 percent and is adjusted for typical seasonal changes.



Employment increased over October in four industries in Colorado, according to a news release: professional and business services were up 2,400; leisure and hospitality were up 2,300; education and health services were up 1,200; and construction was up 1,000. Employment decreased in trade, transportation and utilities; manufacturing; financial activities; government; information and other services. Mining and logging were unchanged, the state reported.

Colorado’s lowest unemployment rate for November was 3.9 percent, reported in Cheyenne County, east of Colorado Springs on the Kansas border. The highest rate was 15.8 percent, reported in Dolores County, in southwest Colorado on the Utah border.
