Routt County Spotlight: Linda Blazek

Linda Blazek

Age: 58

Occupation: Self-employed

Place of birth: New Jersey

Q. When did you move to Routt County and what brought you here?

A. Moved here full time in October 2007, but we have been part-time residents for six years. We have been coming to Steamboat for more than 30 years and over time managed to make the visits longer. Access to high-speed Internet finally enabled us to work from here.

Q. What’s the biggest risk you’ve taken recently?

A. Retiring from Hewlett-Packard and starting my own business.

Q. Describe your morning routine.

A. No routine – each day has different priorities.

Q. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

A. Grant others good intentions.

Q. What three things would you want people to know about you?

A. I’ve always been designing and sewing specialty items. I had my first business (Sai-Lin Co) as a teenager making custom sails for sailboats including our family race boat – Thistle 818. Now, for my new business (Lin Vest Designs), I’m enjoying making vests and jackets from Pendleton Indian blankets. It’s been fun to travel, exhibit at shows and meet new people.

Q.What did you want to be when you grew up?

A. Physical sciences researcher (and I did work for three major research centers after graduating with a bachelor of science in mathematics and physics, and a master of science in statistics)

Q.If you could invite any four people to dinner, who would they be and what would you talk about?

A. Inviting friends and family would be my choice. The conversations would include skiing (and most likely NASTAR racing), travels and plans for upcoming events.

Q. In the Meatloaf song, “I’d do anything for love, but I won’t do that,” what is that?

A. Move again soon!

Q. Who is your favorite superhero? Why?

A. Gloria Steinem and Ellie Smeal for their feminist leadership
