Steamboat Springs — 6 p.m. Thursday: Steamboat (4-2) vs. Glenwood Springs (3-2)
6 p.m. Saturday: Steamboat vs. Evergreen
Coach Rob Bohlmann said his squad was riding high on confidence after a 3-1 victory against Palisade on Saturday. The squad’s only losses have come in double overtime games. Now, the Sailors have the chance to show off their stuff in a pair of crucial home games against strong opponents.
Steamboat swept Glenwood a year ago, but that game never is an easy one for the Sailors. Then Evergreen comes to town Saturday. The Cougars beat Steamboat, 1-0, last year and enter ranked No. 5 in the state by The Denver Post and have won three consecutive games.

6 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (2-1) vs. Glenwood Springs (0-3)
The Sailors will be trying to do something they haven’t accomplished since 2009: win three games in a row. While the team enters with its best chance against the Demons since that magical 2009 season, Glenwood’s 0-3 start is deceiving. The three opponents are a combined 8-1, and each is ranked in the state’s top 10 by The Denver Post.
The Demons have been limited on offense, averaging less than 200 yards in each game, and the Sailors need to keep them that way if they’re to get the big win at home. Steamboat sunk Moffat County last week with a combined arms approach, and it again will need excellent play on special teams and defense.

6:30 p.m. Friday: Steamboat (7-2) at Palisade (3-7)
1 p.m. Saturday: Steamboat at Delta (2-6)
The Sailors cruised in their league opener against Summit and could make a big statement if they can carry that momentum into a pair of weekend matchups against several league powers off to slow starts. Palisade and Delta each swept Steamboat twice last year. Palisade went on to win the league, and Delta was third. They both have struggled early this season, however. That doesn’t mean they’ll still be limping in October, but it perhaps gives the Sailors an early-season window of opportunity to stake out a place in the top half of the Western Slope.

Friday and Saturday: Steamboat at Littleton
Coach Don Toy set the regional tournament as the target for his team to fully come together and be playing its best tennis. A two-day tournament at Littleton against some top-tier Front Range competition will be a great chance to do that.
5 p.m. Thursday: Soroco (0-6) vs. West Grand (4-4)
3 p.m. Saturday: Soroco at Paonia (7-0)
The road doesn’t get any easier for the struggling Soroco volleyball squad after a pair of 3-0 losses last weekend on the road. The Rams will have a good opportunity at home Thursday against West Grand. Saturday’s date with undefeated Paonia, however, will be a difficult test for a team still coming together in what’s been a difficult first stage of the season.
5:30 p.m. Thursday: Hayden (4-2) vs. Vail Christian (5-3)
6:30 p.m. Friday: Hayden vs. Hotchkiss (0-6)
The Tigers have turned heads with their early-season success, already racking up as many wins as they did in all of 2012. A game Thursday at home against Vail Christian will be a chance to prove there’s some muscle behind this early-season surge. The last time the two team’s tangled in Hayden, the Tigers upset Vail Christian, giving the team its only loss in league play in 2011. These are far different teams now, however.
