Martha Anderson, polo

2012 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, freshman at Cornell University

Anderson completed her first semester as co-captain of the women’s polo development team. The Cornell women’s team is a powerhouse in the sport, making 29 appearances in the national finals in the past 35 years with 13 overall titles. The Big Red women hope to earn their 10th consecutive Eastern Regional Title when the season resumes in January.

Mike Vandahl, basketball

2008 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, senior at Western State Colorado University



Vandahl tallied four points, two assists and two rebounds in 21 minutes as Western State beat New Mexico Highlands 84-73 on Dec. 7. He followed it up with nine points in 19 minutes, including three 3-pointers, in a 73-71 win against Wester New Mexico on Dec. 8. The Mountaineers (5-3 overall, 4-0 in RMAC play) are off to their best conference start since the 1998-99 season.

Lauryn Bruggink, wrestling

2012 graduate of Soroco High School, freshman at Wayland Baptist University



Bruggink and her team lost a dual to Oklahoma City University on Dec. 6. Bruggink was pinned in 48 seconds by Logan Rich at 116 pounds. The team is off until Jan. 12, when it partakes in the National Duels tournament.

Erin Koehler, basketball

2012 graduate of Hayden High School, freshman at Colorado School of Mines

Koehler didn’t see any action in the last three games as the School of Mines went 2-1 in three close contests. On the season, Koehler, one of three freshmen on the team, has played in three games, averaging five minutes a contest.

Tanner Stillwell, basketball coach

2007 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, assistant basketball coach at Western State Colorado University

Stillwell is in his first season as a basketball coach at Western State. After graduating from Colorado State University in 2012, he student-taught at Fort Collins High School and was an assistant basketball coach there. At Western he works with former Steamboat Springs coaches Mike Moskowitz and Kelly Meek.
