Routt County collegiate athletes roundup for April 30

Lauryn Bruggink, wrestling

2012 graduate of Soroco High School, freshman at Wayland Baptist University

Bruggink was given the Strength of Character award at the Wayland Baptist post-season banquet. Bruggink wrapped up her freshman season of wrestling at the school this winter.

Jamey Swiggart, tennis

2012 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, freshman at Idaho State University

Idaho State lost in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Tournament, falling to Weber State, 4-3. Swiggart went 1-1 on the day, winning his double smatch with teammate Austin Miller, 8-6. He lost in singles, however, falling 7-5, 6-2 to Sanjay Goswami of Weber State. The loss ended the season for the squad, leaving Swiggart with a team-best record of 15-4 in singles play.

Kevin Bertrand, lacrosse

2008 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, senior at Adams State University

Bertrand scored one goal on five shots Saturday against Colorado Mesa, but it wasn't quite enough for Adams State, which lost 10-9. Bertrand's score came late as the team was trying to overcome a 10-7 deficit. The game wrapped up the season for Adams State, leaving the squad at 3-9 overall and 2-4 in league play.

2011 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, sophomore at the University of Puget Sound

Racing with the women's eights, Fox helped the squad to a fifth-place finish at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships. The team raced Saturday to qualify for the finals, then raced again Sunday to lock down fifth. The team has one regatta remaining before it will learn if it made the NCAA Championships.

Holli Salazar, track and field

2009 graduate of Hayden High School, senior at CSU-Pueblo

Salazar won the hammer throw Saturday at the Colorado School of Mines Pre-Conference meet, reaching 165 feet, 5 inches to outdistance her nearest competitor by 19 inches. Action at the three-day RMAC championships begins Saturday in Golden.
