Luci Franklin, swimming

2012 graduate of The Lowell Whiteman School, sophomore at Saint Michael’s College

On Nov. 9, Saint Michael’s opened its season with a win over Colby-Sawyer College. Luci Franklin anchored the 200-yard medley relay to take second place, took fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 100 yard backstroke. A week later, Franklin took third in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke in a win over Clarkson.

Chris Zirkle, cross-country

2011 athlete at Hayden High School, junior at Northwest Christian University

On Saturday, Chris Zirkle will be one of 97 runners competing at the NAIA Men’s Cross Country National Championship at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan. Zirkle advanced to the national championship with a 14th-place finish at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship on Nov. 9.

Alex Estes, track and field

2010 graduate of Soroco High School, senior at Adams State University

Alex Estes, a jumper, is back with the Grizzlies for his senior season. Adams State will start its indoor schedule Dec. 7 for the Adams State Early Grizzly Open.

Courtney Garth, soccer

2010 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, senior at Lake Forest (Ill.) College

Courtney Garth finished her Lake Forest career Nov. 8 with a 3-2 loss in the Midwest Conference Tournament semifinal. Garth finished her Foresters career as team captain.

Maggie Stanford, volleyball

2012 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, sophomore at Sewanee: The University of the South

On Nov. 8, Maggie Stanford and the Tigers took down second-seeded Centre, 3-0, in the Southern Athletic Association tournament. In the win, Stanford recorded three blocks stuffed. A day later, Sewanee’s season came to a close with a 3-0 loss to Hendrix, a game in which Stanford started with five kills.

Martha Anderson, polo

2012 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, sophomore at Cornell University

Martha Anderson is on Cornell’s 2013-14 varsity roster. The Big Red is one of the oldest and most successful collegiate polo programs in the country with 29 appearances in the national finals in the past 36 years.
