Routt County businesses working through reopening process following fires

The owners of Embellishments of Steamboat Springs said they are currently working through the process of reopening the store located at 903 Lincoln Ave. The store, which closed Nov. 24 after a fire in one of its display windows, plans to reopen some time this summer.

Owners of two popular Northwest Colorado businesses closed by fires in 2024 say they are not going anywhere and are currently in the process of reopening their businesses.

Embellishments of Steamboat Springs and Hayden’s Creek View Grill were each recently affected by blazes but continue to soldier onward in the coming months.

“We are still working through the process of insurance,” said Jason Edinburg, whose wife Ashley co-owns Embellishments of Steamboat Springs with her mother, Melinda Miller. “Between the inventory loss and the building damage, there are a lot of steps there, there’s a lot of negotiating with the insurance company to determine what inventory is salvageable, what is not salvageable … it’s all a process.”

Edinburg said the plan is to start moving furniture and fixtures next week and that salvageable inventory will also be moved and most likely stored. There will be considerable demolition inside the space at 903 Lincoln Ave. due to smoke damage.

“There’s going to be a significant remodel going on after we get all the inventory and furniture fixtures moved out,” Edinburg said. “We are really looking forward to reopening, but as far as timing it’s still hard to nail that down.”

Edinburg hopes Embellishments will reopen some time this summer. The business has been closed since Nov. 24 after an early-morning fire in a display window was extinguished by Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue.

“There’s a silver lining here, and we’re really looking forward to reopening with a beautiful new interior,” Edinburg said. “It’s going to take some time, not just to get things moved, but then once the demolition and reconstruction process begins, that still takes a while.”

Creek View Grill owner Maritza JuandeDios also understands the process of reopening after a fire.

An Oct. 9 blaze has left her restaurant, located at 825 W. Jefferson Ave. in Hayden, closed for more than five months.

“We didn’t run away, we are still there,” said JuandeDios, who owns the eatery with her brother, Ray. “Our plan is to reopen for sure by Mother’s Day, if not before.”

JuandeDios said the permits to rebuild the inside and exterior of the building are in place. On Tuesday, construction workers were hard at work with hopes of having the process completed later this spring.

JuandeDios and her brother purchased the Creek View Grill in June 2022 and officially opened the following month. Creek View was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering a mix of American and Mexican foods as well as Peruvian specials from time to time.

“We will open, and we will fix it better than it was before,” JuandeDios said Tuesday morning. “We are adding a roof on the deck and looking forward to the day when we can reopen.”
