Rollingstone Ranch sees 2 holes-in-one in same week

Pete Wither

— Steamboat Springs resident Pete Wither hit his first hole-in-one Thursday at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club.

Wither, an owner at Colorado Group Realty, used a 7-iron on the par-3 No. 8 to sink the ace. Wither and his wife, Barbi, only played nine holes.

“I’ve never hit one before, but my wife hit one about 10 years ago,” Wither said. “It’s my understanding most people never hit one.”

Since no one was in the clubhouse for a traditional round of drinks, Wither celebrated by buying Barbi a new golf shirt. Following their round, the couple called family members to spread the good news.

On Sept. 21, Jack McEncroe, of Steamboat, also sank a hole-in-one on Rollingstone Ranch’s No. 11.

Playing alongside friend Randy White, McEncroe pulled a 7-wood on the 156-yard pin location, sailed his shot high and said the golf gods took care of the rest.

“We got up there to the green, and there was only one ball,” McEncroe said. “I thought it went over. I looked in the hole and my ball was there.”

Unlike Wither, McEncroe had a few people to buy drinks for in the clubhouse.
