Rodeo team still learning the ropes

The Steamboat Springs high school rodeo team traveled to Pueblo April 15-16. The local cowboys and cowgirl didn’t place, but adult sponsor Karen Myers said the athletes gained some much-needed experience.

“There were 45 roping teams there so the competition was pretty tough,” Myers said.

Jeff Fowler and Scott Lodwick competed in the team roping event and Chad Vale competed in saddle bronc riding. None of the cowboys placed but Myers was happy with their showings in the team’s second outing this year.

The highlight of the weekend for the local squad was in the barrel racing where Kaylee Myers got her first shot at the high school competition.

In the April 15 rodeo, she finished with a time of 21.57. But in the second rodeo on April 16, Myers time improved drastically as she posted a time of 17.88.
