Rescuers search for snowmobiler in North Routt

— Rescue teams were searching Wednesday night for a man who got into a tough spot while snowmobiling west of Steamboat Lake in North Routt County. Dawn Alperti, of Routt County Search and Rescue, said the 26-year-old was not injured but was unable to get back onto a trail in the area near Routt County Road 42.

Alperti said the man was snowmobiling with two others — all from Iowa, she said, judging by the area codes on their cell phones — when he left the trail, separated from the others and went down into a drainage. Rescue crews were in cell phone contact Wednesday night with the man, who Alperti said had made a fire and had suitable winter gear. No one in the party was injured, she said. Rescue crews were not expected to reach the man until late Wednesday night.
