Republican and Democratic county caucuses scheduled for Tuesday
Steamboat Springs — The Routt County Democratic and Republican parties are holding their caucuses Tuesday.
The main focus of the caucus, according to Routt County Republican Party chairwoman Tina Kyprios, is to elect delegates.
“The precinct caucus really is the first step in the process that chooses delegates for county, state and district assemblies,” said Routt County Democratic Party chairwoman Catherine Carson.
Sign in for the Democratic caucus starts at 6:30 p.m., and the Republican caucus is slated to start at 7 p.m.
There are contested races for the Republican Party, but there will be no straw polls Tuesday, Kyprios said.
The Democratic Party currently doesn’t have any contested races.
The Republican Party will be selecting 47 county delegates, with an alternate for each delegate, and 21 eventually will attend the state assembly.
Carson said the Routt County Democratic Party will be selecting as many as 100 delegates with 29 attending the state and district assemblies.
Both parties also will be discussing items that members would like added to party platforms.
The county assemblies for the parties are scheduled for March 22.
