On Thursday, Feb. 18, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colorado, released the names of 15 students whom she nominated to attend the U.S. service academies, including a trio from Steamboat Springs.

Kendall Harrington, Shea Pepin and Bowden Tumminello, all of Steamboat, have been nominated to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point.

“The 15 students I nominated to the U.S. service academies are some of the Third District’s best and brightest,” Boebert said in a statement. “I am inspired by their commitment to using their academic strengths, leadership potential, and unique talents in the service of our country. I wish these 15 students the best of success, and I look forward to following their careers as they serve our nation with distinction.”

According to the congresswoman’s office, Boebert’s competitive process to receive an academy nomination is based on the applicant’s academic strength, leadership potential, extracurricular involvement and an interview before the academy nomination boards comprising veterans from Colorado’s3rd Congressional District.

The application to receive a nomination for fall 2023 will open on July 5, and the deadline to apply is Oct. 14.
