Renowned bridge instructor Robert Todd coming to Steamboat on Monday

Steamboat Bridge is bringing celebrity bridge speaker Robert Todd to town for a local event on Monday, Aug. 1. Todd is a highly regarded instructor and presenter who often works in large venues.

“We are very fortunate that he’s agreed to come to Steamboat,” said event organizer Sharon Smith. “(Todd) is recognized as an exceptionally engaging and entertaining bridge instructor that appeals to bridge players of all levels.”

In fact, Todd is often described as one of the top young bridge teachers in North America, holding destination seminars, teaching workshops and lecturing at regional and national tournaments. He is also an author, writing for numerous bridge publications and publishing his own regular lessons, and the founder of Adventures in Bridge.

Todd’s teaching style aims to help players improve their bridge thinking, not just memorize conventions. According to Todd, “One of the keys to being a good defender is to think about the right thing at the right time.”

On Aug. 1, he will offer a presentation titled, “Opening Leads and Thinking Like a Defender.”

He will be at the Steamboat Springs Community Center with a seminar beginning at 9 a.m., lunch at noon and bridge starting at 1 p.m. It’s $20 to RSVP. Anyone who’s interested should secure their spot by emailing bridgeinsteamboat@gmail.com. There will also be an opportunity to win a chance to play bridge with Todd.

Additionally, Todd is on the American Contract Bridge League’s education foundation, advocating for cultivating and educating bridge players. Smith said Todd’s work is all encompassing, and he speaks to and for all bridge players, including social players, not just sanctioned duplicate players.
