Nonprofit Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council for the second year is offering a wildfire protection rebate program for Routt County residents to complete a wildfire mitigation measure at their home.

Residents or renters at a property within Routt County can submit a short application for an up to $300 reimbursement to complete eligible wildfire mitigation actions. The measures could be installing 1/8-inch metal screens on attic vents, removing flammable materials within 5 feet of a home’s perimeter or using noncombustible materials for fencing that contacts the home.

Applications are due May 30. For more information, visit Routtwildfire.org/routt-resident-rebates.

Highly flammable juniper bushes, wood chips within 5 feet of a home perimeter and flammable fencing that abuts a home are all wildfire ignition hazards that the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council is incentivizing homeowners and renters to remove.
