Readers sound off for Sunday, Oct. 26

Hang in there, Williams

I just saw in the newspaper that Marcus Williams is back in the race. Marcus — don’t have any more bad days. We are with you.

Yes on airline program

The city should give the chamber of commerce $100,000 to help fund the summer airline program.

A sound budget

It is completely irresponsible for this newspaper and Paul Fisher to continue to perpetuate the myth that the Montessori charter school budget is not fiscally sound.

Make out-of-staters pay

I would vote yes on the question of the week. It’s time that 50 percent of our property owners from out of state should start paying for city services.

Yes for improvements

I readily support Referendum 2A because of the increased need and increased growth and necessary services for the fire department. There is a need for capital improvements in the area to keep us in line with comparable cities.

Yes on Referendum 2A

I support Referendum 2A. I think this is really important for fire protection and increased capital improvements. The data I have looked at show we are not spending as much in our town per capita as is being spent in other towns. We need to step up to the plate and invest in our hometown.

In support of 2A

I support Referendum 2A. The flow of money to us to support community infrastructure is a moving target as long as we are dependent on sales taxes. Who among us would want to have our paycheck and household finances dependent on who comes to visit us? Maybe then we would look a lot more kindly on the in-laws coming. It is fiscally sound and responsible for us to pay for our services through a property tax.

We need services

I’m calling to support Referendum 2A. I think it is important for everyone to understand that right now fire and emergency services aren’t being funded to the amount necessary for a community our size.

2A is a good start

I want to express strongly my support for Referendum 2A. The only way we are going to be able to support what we need in Steamboat is by moving toward a property tax and 2A is a good way to start.

On parking changes

The new changes for parking enforcement I think will be helpful for all downtown, however, I think adding to these changes the enforcement of cars parked in the alleys all day long would be helpful. Also, in order to increase the amount of parking available, they should restrict RV and trailer parking on Lincoln Avenue. And also, it would help if the spaces were better marked so people don’t park in two spaces. It would be nice if the city had an unofficial policy. What a benefit it would be if the ambassadors who are enforcing the parking would also help keep it clean by patrolling for litter. Good job, Steamboat.
