— The Soroco High School volleyball team cruised to a winning weekend Friday and Saturday, taking three of their four matches at a tournament in Rangely.

The Rams weren’t exactly efficient in the process, winning their first two in the maximum three sets, but coach Jeannie Jo Logan said it was a positive trip. The team finished second in its pool, then beat Basalt in two sets to place third, overall.

“We saw some great things out of the girls this weekend,” Logan said.

The team dealt with some significant roster shakeups, covering for several players either sick or unable to play.

“The girls did great and really overcame that,” Logan said.

Soroco beat Hotchkiss 25-18, 19-25, 15-12; Mancos 25-17, 15-25, 15-6; and Basalt, 25-17, 25-23. It lost against Moffat County, 25-17, 15-25, 15-6.

“You always have that shoulda-woulda-coulda. We lost to Moffat, and it was just a momentum shift in the last set that we couldn’t overcome,” Logan said.

Hayden also played at the tournament, losing a tight match against Basalt, 17-25, 25-13, 16-14; and in two sets to Telluride, 25-11, 25-12.
