— The story was the same both Friday and Saturday for the Soroco High School girls basketball team.

The Rams, in their coach’s words, “played down to the competition,” shook it off at halftime and went on to win easily.

Saturday, Soroco dished out that storyline playing at Lake County, where the Rams racked up a 68-40 victory.

“We’ve played down to the competition level the last two nights in the first half, and we haven’t played to the level we can play at,” coach David Bruner said.

The team was thrown off its rhythm Saturday when it arrived later than expected for the game as bad weather closed in, and slick roads slowed travel.

Still, the Rams managed to pull away and win comfortably. Chloe Veilleux had 23 points to lead the team, while DaKota Bruner scored 12.

Next up for Soroco, 16-2 and 8-1, is a big one, a Friday home game against Meeker, 6-2 in the league. With a win, Meeker could draw the Rams into a tie for second place.

Soroco boys pick up win

The Soroco boys team also won Saturday, knocking off Lake County, 62-50. The win was the team’s fourth of the season, making it 4-14 overall and 4-8 in league play.
