Moffat County hosted its home invitational Saturday at Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig where nine schools including Steamboat Springs and Soroco competed.

While the Rams were unable to field enough runners to count toward a team score, the Sailors placed third overall in the girls race and fifth in the boys.

Steamboat’s Grace Olexa was the top performer for the Sailors, placing eighth on a 22 minute, 8.4 second time. Novella Light was not far behind in 13th.

For the Rams, Lupita Jaconetta and Larhae Whaley came out with top-25 finishes in 14th and 22nd, respectively.

The Steamboat boys placed fifth as a team with two top-20 finishes from Michael Hagney in 17th and Asher Rowan in 18th. Soroco’s Alan Mayer led the charge for the Rams, placing sixth and breaking the 18-minute mark.

Next up for the Rams is the Summit Stinger at Copper Mountain on Saturday while the Sailors take the weekend off to enjoy their homecoming break. The team will then begin preparations for the Warrior Lincoln Park Classic on Oct. 5 in Grand Junction.
