Rams hang tough in loss

It will go down as another loss, but Soroco High School volleyball coach Jeannie Jo Logan said, though the Rams fell in four sets Thursday night on the road at Vail Christian, the team played one of its best matches of the season.

The scores were 25-18, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18.

“The girls played great,” Logan said. “Those were all long, hard-fought games.”

The loss drops Soroco to 8-6 on the season, but it stands out as the team’s best performance against an “elite” team this season.

When they played host to Vail Christian, 15-2, earlier this season, Soroco lost in three quick sets, failing to prove competitive in the match. Thursday, they were at the very least that, getting strong nights from Lucy Carlson and Briana Peterson.

“Bri and Lucy worked their tails off,” Logan said. “We were able to go to several different hitters, and that helped.”

It wasn’t enough to get the win, but it did give the team confidence heading into another of those matches against the league’s elite, at 1 p.m. Saturday in Oak Creek.

“If they play like they did tonight,” Logan said, “anything can happen.”
