Rams gear up for season’s last game

Soroco football plays at 1 p.m. today

— Soroco High School football travels to Norwood today for its final game of the season.

The Rams (4-3) are ineligible for post-season play after dropping down a class to play eight-man football. Soroco coach David Bruner said his team still has plenty to play for.

“We’ve had a good year, but we still want to go out, play hard and see what happens,” Bruner said.

The Rams already have avoided a losing record – their first such accomplishment in five years – and could secure a winning record with a win today. To do so, they’ll need to muscle up against a tough running game.

Fullback Stryker Lane, a bruising runner who can plow through unsure tackles with ease, leads Norwood.

“We’ve been working all week to make sure we get him stopped,” Bruner said. “They don’t get very fancy. They usually like to go three yards and a cloud of dust, trying to run over the top of you and eventually wear you down so you can’t tackle (Lane).”

It will take solid tackling on defense and, Bruner said, a wide-open approach on offense to get past tough-minded Norwood.

“We’ll probably throw the ball more than we have. We might have a tough time running it,” Bruner said. “We want to open them up early with the pass, get those guys off the line of scrimmage and then maybe we’ll start running.”
