Rams boys team beats Moffat County junior varsity by 7

Ben Ingersoll

— The Soroco High School boys basketball team closed the Meeker Shootout on a high note, beating rival Hayden on Friday and following it up with a double-digit win against Moffat County’s junior varsity Saturday, 55-48.

The Rams used a strong first half to jump out to a 25-13 halftime lead. When the Bulldogs ripped off 24 third-quarter points, Soroco didn’t fold with 19 points of its own. Some big free throws in the waning minutes sealed the Rams their third win of the season.

“We had some big free throws at the beginning and at the end,” Soroco coach Shawn Hayes said. “We hit 7-of-9 free throws in the fourth quarter.”

Eric Logan had a huge day, dropping a game-high 31 points.

“He led us all over the floor,” Hayes said about Logan. “He had a huge production day for us.”

Warren Hayes, who was named to the Shootout all-tournament team, had eight points Saturday.

Soroco will be back in action Friday against Rangely.
