Rams avoid huge meltdown, pick up 10th win of the season

— For about 30 minutes of Soroco High School boys basketball's 32-minute game at Plateau Valley on Saturday, the Rams were dominant.

It's the final minutes of each half that irked coach Jake Eskridge in his team's 50-46 win, a score that isn't quite indicitive of how the game played out, he said.

The Rams built a 30-18 halftime lead and dominated nearly wire to wire, but were outscored 19-7 in the fourth quarter, squandering away a 15-point lead with 90 seconds left in the contest.

"We played excellent all day except the last minute of both halves," Eskridge said. "We were up 15 with a minute and a half to go. We fell apart and we can't relax like we did. I'm happy we got the win. For the most part, we did a lot of good things, just those last minutes hurt us."

Eskridge said Plateau Valley had little answer for his twin towers, Ryan Jeep and Bjorn Carlson. Jeep scored a game-high 23 points and Carlson dropped 12 of his own.

The win was Soroco's 10th on the season with just league rival Hayden remaining on the schedule.

"My upperclassmen led the way and did some good things, but it was a good team victory," Eskridge said.
