Prudential, Romick and Associates merge

Agencies joining forces to be more competitive in market

— One of Steamboat’s largest real estate agencies just got larger.

Principles at Prudential Steamboat Realty announced their merger with Romick and Associates this week.

Prudential’s Cameron Boyd and Pam Vanatta said they believe the addition of Brent and Robin Romick’s expertise in ranch and ranchette properties will allow their agency to be more competitive in the local market.

“We’re joining forces to take over market share in Steamboat Springs,” Vanatta said. “We are No. 1 in residential home sales. That business, combined with the ranch element the sky is the limit, really.”

The Romicks will retain ownership of their own company, Romick Signature Developments, but the listings for their projects such as Lynx Basin Estates and the Creek Ranch will go directly to Prudential.

Vanatta said no money changed hands in the merger the two companies are merely joining forces. The Romicks have moved their offices to the Prudential site in Central Park Plaza.

Asked if the merger was a consolidation of agencies resulting from the current state of the real estate market, Boyd said “no.”

“For us, it was more economy of scale,” Boyd said. “It’s something Brent and Robin can fee off of in terms of continuing to grow their business.

“Pam and I have been real impressed the last couple of years with Romick Signature Developments,” Boyd said. “They’ve shown a real commitment to open space and natural resource conservation. We felt it was a great product for our office to be associated with and to sell.”

The Creek Ranch completed a stream habitat improvement project on Trout Creek and has marketed the availability of trophy fishing to buyers.

Romick said he thinks his company will benefit from the increased exposure they will receive with Prudential’s entire sales force behind them.

“During the ’80s, Romick and Associates had as many as 13 agents,” Romick said. “Robin and I have chosen to keep our niche in the marketplace. Prudential is just the ideal company for us.”

Joan Shenfield, a lead Realtor with Romick and Associates over the years, is also making the jump to Prudential. Currently, Prudential is affiliated with 22 brokers and five licensed assistants.

Robin Romick said her clients will feed business into Prudential’s core residential business.

The telephone number for Romick and Associates now rings through to the Prudential office.
