Preliminary hearing cancelled in homicide case

Cole Pollard

— A preliminary hearing was cancelled Wednesday for Cole Pollard, the man accused of murdering Patricia Richmond in North Routt County.

The preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday, but was cancelled following an emergency request from the Routt County Public Defender’s Office, which is representing Pollard.

In the request, filed Wednesday, the Public Defender’s Office did not explain why the hearing should not proceed. The filing states the Public Defender’s Office can provide more information to the judge if requested.

Judge Shelley Hill granted the request Wednesday.

The same day, Hill granted a request by the Public Defender’s Office to no longer represent Lucas Johnson, another murder suspect. In a court filing, the Public Defender’s Office stated there was a conflict of interest but did not elaborate.

Both Pollard and Johnson are being housed at the Routt County Jail.

Alternate defense counsel is being appointed for Johnson, and his next court date has not been set.

Pollard is due back in court at 4 p.m. Nov. 16 for a status conference.
