Pond rules ride up Rabbit Ears

— Bicycle racing season in Steamboat Springs kicked off Wednesday with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Road Training Series, starting with the Rabbit Ears Time Trial.

Alex Pond won the grinding opening event, riding from the bottom of the pass to the top of the west summit in 34 minutes, 6 seconds.

Barkley Robinson wasn’t far behind, finishing in 35:45 and Jake Barker was third, in 36:42.



Susie Jones was the fastest on the women’s side, finishing in 43:39. Amy Charity was second, barely, at 43:42 and Michelle Freckleton was third in 53:09.

The series will often run alternate to the Town Challenge Mountain Bike Series on Wednesdays, which begins this Wednesday at Marabou Ranch. The next road race is June 18, with a time trial on U.S. Highway 40 and Colorado Highway 131. Races follow on July 16, July 30 and Aug. 18.
