Planned Parenthood to open office

Clients will be able to get services at the community center

Thanks to a state grant, Planned Parenthood will begin holding office hours in Oak Creek two days out of the week.

“Due to finances, we aren’t able to get out there any more,” Planned Parenthood manager Amy Dickson said.

The plan is that a staffer and a nurse practitioner will hold office hours every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at the South Routt Community Center. Dickson said the she hopes to have it ready to go by June.

Services that will be provided include birth control, treatment for sexually transmitted infections and examinations.

“It’s really important that we are in south Routt,” she said. “I think there is a need for low cost or free family planning services.”

Planned Parenthood recently received a Title X family planning grant from the state to set up a program in Oak Creek.

The grant allows for 300 people in south Routt and Steamboat Springs to receive some kind of financial assistance on a sliding scale, depending on the recipient’s financial situation.

Once the 300 people have been helped, the money will be gone. But Dickson said the plan is to keep the same office hours at the community center.

Appointments will for the Planned Parenthood office in south Routt will be taken at the office in Steamboat Springs at 879-2212.
