The town of Hayden will have a planned electrical outage starting at 9 p.m. Thursday in order for Yampa Valley Electric Association to repair the Hayden Substation that was damaged earlier this week.

The substation was struck by lightning at about 3 a.m. Tuesday with power restored within two hours, though YVEA still needs to complete repairs.

The Thursday outage is expected to last until about midnight and will affect an estimated 1,156 members in Hayden and the surrounding areas.

People who are expected to be impacted have been contacted, though not all customers have up-to-date contact information.

Tammi Strickland, communications and public relations manager for YVEA, said people unclear if they will experience the outage should call the Steamboat Springs office at 970-879-1160.
