Phil Weiser: I’m running to be the lawyer for all the people of Colorado
In 2018, it is critical to elect an Attorney General who is committed to defending your rights and protecting our Colorado way life. I am running for Attorney General because I believe in the promise and potential of this office to fight for all Coloradans, regardless of their ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, socio-economic status, where they live, or who they love. We need leaders who understand that public service means just that — serving the people of Colorado.
I have visited all of Colorado’s 64 counties throughout the course of this campaign. I’ve heard from parents who are worried about their kids having safe water to drink and clean air to breathe. I’ve heard stories about students who do their homework in the car outside the library, just to get internet access. Across the state, I hear from moms who want to keep their kids safe from gun violence, families who struggle to save loved ones from opioid addiction and consumers and workers who hope to hold companies accountable for abusing our trust.
The fight to protect Coloradans will be central to my service as AG. Here are some of my plans for office.
Opportunity for all
Fair treatment and opportunity for all Coloradans is the heart of my platform. Our elected officials must work together to build strategies and institutions to ensure that all citizens, workers and consumers are treated fairly. I will take a stand against irresponsible companies, even challenge our federal government when it refuses to protect access to healthcare for those with pre-existing conditions, and work hard for our families and communities.
Our Attorney General must hold companies accountable when they cheat consumers and workers. Every Coloradan deserves a fair shot at a good job, access to affordable healthcare and a vibrant economy where responsible businesses can thrive.
Preserving our public lands and protecting our land, air and water
The Attorney General plays a pivotal role in protecting our incredible resources and safeguarding the health and safety of our people and environment. Our agricultural economy, tourism industry, and quality of life depend on our smart management of our state’s resources—especially its water. For me, this will be a top priority. I will work tirelessly to protect, conserve and manage our water, ensuring clean water for future generations. The same is true for protecting our public lands and clean air.
Championing broadband access for Routt County
When I visited Routt County and learned about the broadband network it is building, I asked County Commissioners whether the AG’s office was helping them. The answer was no. I will work with the state’s broadband coordinator and other officials to help develop a playbook for helping communities around our state.
By bringing together community and business leaders to create plans for deploying broadband, the AG’s office can remove legal, administrative and other barriers to broadband deployment. I will provide support for broadband mapping, procurement, distance learning, tele-medicine and community engagement initiatives.
My vision for an innovative, collaborative and inclusive Office of Attorney General
The Attorney General’s office can lead in 21st century government, creating an innovative and collaborative organization to solve problems statewide. I will appoint a Chief Innovation Officer and a leader for Diversity and Inclusion and work with rural communities to maximize modern technologies so we have a truly statewide coalition working for Colorado.
We need leaders who share our values and are willing to take a stand. I have dedicated my life to law, justice and public service. I want to continue that work as your next Attorney General.
