Paul Wellman: Coal mining is antique industry
Western coal mining is fast disappearing along with all coal mining.
Tipton’s American Energy Act is a cruel joke on all people whether they know it or not — better than hoping that this act does not pass so Colorado miners will be able to prolong the demise of this antique industry.
Why not put preemptive effort and money into training current coal miners to be wind and solar installers and build wind and solar farms on the bankrupt coal mining properties?
In 2000, Sheikh Yamani, the former oil minister of Saudi Arabia, gave an interview in which he said, “Thirty years from now there will be a huge amount of oil — and no buyers. Oil will be left in the ground. The Stone Age came to an end not because we had a lack of stones, and the oil age will come to an end not because we have a lack of oil.”
Coal is in the same boat. Time is wasting.
