Steamboat Springs — It’s difficult to say with certainty what drew a German buyer to a listing for a ranch home off Colorado Highway 131 this summer, but brokers who represented both seller and buyer are sure it was the sounds of an original Brent Rowan score.

Rowan, who scored his first film about two-and-a-half years ago, said he was scoring music for a Viste Verde Guest Ranch video when it dawned on him that real estate listing videos might also benefit from his musical talents.

“I was always interested in the visual part of music,” said Rowan, a well-known country session musician and music producer. “As a musician, I’ve tried to paint pictures musically.”

Rowan reached out to longtime friend and real estate broker Barb Shipley, of Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty, who, at the time, was preparing a listing for a 3,800-square-foot home on 10 acres north of Oak Creek.

Shipley, with broker partner Adrienne Stroock, contracted with Rowan to replace stock music in a high-quality promotional video recently completed by videographer Dan Tullos.

“Some of the videos are really, really great, but the music is horrendous,” Rowan said.

The result of the partnership was an original piece of music Rowan created to specifically to complement the property video, and several months later, the home sold to an international buyer from Germany.

The listing closed in late June, and sellers Ron and Judy Cummins said they think the video and Rowan’s music played an integral role in selling the house.

“Brent’s music elevated our listing video to a piece of art,” Judy Cummins said. “A friend of our neighbor viewed the video without, then with, the music and said there was absolutely no comparison. Brent’s customized score truly brought the house to life.”

Shipley said that, as videos become a more common part of a real estate listing, having a video that stands out is key.

“(Brent) is a world-class musician and a world-class producer,” Shipley said. “It just made it a very first-class package.”

Shipley said she and Stroock only showed the buyer the single property before he made an offer.

Shipley said her team has also contracted with Rowan to score a generic Storm Meadows video, which will be used to promote several listings in the condominium complex.

Rowan said he was pleased to learn the home for which he scored music sold, and he gave the new homeowner a CD recording of the music as a housewarming gift.

“I’m not saying the music sold it, but I’m not saying it didn’t have something to do with it,” Rowan said.
