One Book Steamboat Trivia Contest: Day 6

Steamboat Pilot & Today
SteamboatPilotT_transpBlack_sm

Each fall, the Bud Werner Memorial Library presents One Book Steamboat, a community read for Steamboat Springs. In 2016, the community is reading “Angle of Repose,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Wallace Stegner, honoring the Pulitzer centennial and “the dean of Western writers.”

Win a copy of “Angle of Repose” during the week-long trivia contest, then participate in a month of free discussions and events surrounding the novel. Questions are posted daily, Oct. 1 to 7, in the Steamboat Today and on the library’s website and Facebook page.

Today’s question:

The title of Wallace Stegner’s novel, “Angle of Repose,” is a reference to what?

• The repositioning of settlers in the American West

• The gradual decline of the birth rate in the west

• The angle at which sediment becomes unstable

• The editor’s geological hobby

Submit answers in person at the library front desk, message the Bud Werner Memorial Library Facebook page or email jlay@steamboatlibrary.org. Make sure to include a name and contact information.

The answer to yesterday’s question: “Angle of Repose” explores themes including the Old West and the New West, the conflict between traditional male and female roles, values and more. Stegner invokes readers to explore their own identity as an American, similar to other great American novels, including “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “The Great Gatsby,” “Go Set a Watchman” and “The Glass Castle,” all former One Book Steamboat community read selections.
