Delectable donations

— Advocates Against Battering and Abuse’s Decadent Desserts fundraiser’s new location at Marabou was charming, enchanting and provided the perfect scene to taste 21 delicious and decadent desserts.

Chocolate Soup won first place for the Presentation Award, and personal chef David Merlina won first place for People’s Choice Award. Another new addition to the evening was the presentation of the 2007 Dove Award, which was presented to Jim and Susan Larson.

“The award honors those in the community who have supported the work of Advocates on behalf of women, children and men experiencing violence and abuse in their homes and their community,” said Diane Moore, executive director of Advocates.

The Larsons and so many of Advocates’ volunteers, staff and supporters are so worthy of praise for the incredible work they do to help make our community a safer and more peaceful place and give people hope and courage in unspeakable situations.

An evening of inspiring dance

One thing you can always count on at Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp’s dance performances is fresh moves that incorporate various dancing disciplines. Some moves I saw were definitely the kind where you had to lean forward in your seat because they were so entrancing. The partner work stood out to me as the most interesting and moving aspects of each routine.

I am amazed by the stamina of some of the dancers who seemed to be in almost every piece. The dancers also used facial expressions in addition to body movement to make each piece more powerful and comprehendible for the untrained eye.

One of my favorite things about dance pieces produced for Perry-Mansfield performances is the length of the pieces. Some are like those movies where you are just not quite ready for it to end and it unexpectedly keeps going.

It was another beautiful dance performance by our talented choreographers and students in the woods. Thanks for sharing your work with the community.
