Officer Kristin Bantle ‘recommended for termination’

— Steamboat Springs City Manager Deb Hinsvark on Tuesday told police department employees that police officer Kristin Bantle has been “recommended for termination.”

Hinsvark did not elaborate on who recommended Bantle be terminated.

Hinsvark said the termination process allows for Bantle to provide additional information to the city manager. The city manager can then reconsider the termination.

“There will be a little period of time while we work on that resolution with officer Bantle,” Hinsvark said to the staff.

The District Attorney’s Office on July 14 filed one charge of attempt to influence a public servant against Bantle.

According to the charge, Bantle provided false information on an employment application submitted to the Routt County Sheriff’s Office in early 2013. The public servant named in the charge is Routt County Sheriff Garrett Wiggins.

According to court documents unsealed Friday, Bantle lied about using cocaine when she applied for a job with the Routt County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the documents, the District Attorney’s Office began investigating Bantle after receiving a telephone call June 2 from interim Police Chief Jerry DeLong regarding a possible crime that had been committed by Bantle. Delong said the department had been investigating alleged inappropriate conduct by Bantle while she served as the school resource officer. The possible criminal conduct surfaced during that investigation.
