November 10, 1928 – September 23, 2025

Victor Serafy, a resident of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, passed away on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 23, 2025. He was 96 years old.

Vic, as he was most often called, was born November 10, 1928 in Brownsville, Texas to Greek immigrants Theodore Saraphi and Angelica Giannis. He had a happy childhood and worked in his father’s restaurant, the White Kitchen, along with his brother, Nick, and sister, Helen.

Vic attended the University of Texas for a brief period and then enlisted in the Armed Forces and was stationed in Georgia. He attended what later became the Mercer University College of Pharmacy in Atlanta and received his pharmacy degree. While working at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Vic met Atlanta Debutante Jan Hayes, who was working as a candy striper at the hospital. They married at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Atlanta on June 7,1959 and remained married until Jan’s passing in 2017.

Vic worked in Atlanta for the Federal Government in the Social Security branch and as a pharmacist until he retired in the late 1990’s, early 2000’s. Vic worked tirelessly to support his family which now included three boys, Ted, Grant, and Scott. He worked every weekday with the Federal Government and then would spend a few nights a week as a pharmacist at Marshall & Bell in Atlanta.

Vic was known for his kindness, humility and generosity and service to others. He was a member of All Saints’ in Atlanta and volunteered his time to the church. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Steamboat and would ride his bike to drop off checks in support of the church. He spent countless hours in Atlanta and Steamboat being a good neighbor. He was loved everywhere he lived. Vic was well-known for riding his Walmart bike around Steamboat daily until he no longer could well into his 90’s. He rarely let his emotions get the better of him and most of us who knew him best never, not once, heard him say anything bad about anyone else. He led a full and happy life.

Victor is survived by his sons, Scott Serafy of Macon, GA, and Grant Serafy of Steamboat Springs, CO, both of whom were by his side when he passed, and by his daughter-in-law, Liz Langley of Steamboat Springs, CO.
